Graduate bags 7 years in jail for stealing mobile phone inside a church

An Igbosere magistrate's court sitting in Lagos has sentenced Williams Okonoboh Eromosele, an ex- convict, and a graduate of accountancy from Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State to seven years in prison with hard labour for stealing a mobile phone inside a church. The convict was recently sentenced by magistrate Mrs. O. Otitoju after he pleaded guilty on one-count charge.

Today, the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, arrived at his hometown in Isiama Afara, Umuahia in Abia, where he met his parents, Eze Israel and Ugoeze Nnenne Kanu exactly one week after his release from Kuje Prison in Abuja.  Kanu was arrested in 2015 and locked up in prison for treason and his agitations for the Republic of Biafra from Nigeria.

SCHENGEN : EU TO END INTERNAL CONTROLS BY NOVEMBER

EU countries that imposed border controls in the passport-free Schengen area because of the migrant crisis should end them by November, Brussels said Tuesday. Austria, Denmark, Germany, Sweden  and non-EU  Norway  introduced the ID checks in 2015 and have been allowed to repeatedly prolong them at set intervals. Sweden said earlier Tuesday that it was scrapping the checks. The  European Commission , the executive arm of the EU, said it would now only recommend one final half-year extension from mid-May.

EUROPEAN UNION : ORGANISATION WON'T HALT US, CANADA VISA WAIVERS

The EU on Tuesday ruled out forcing US and Canadian citizens to get visas after making progress on a row over permit-free travel for five of the bloc's countries. Citizens of  Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland  and  Romania  all need visas to enter the  United States .  Canada  maintains visa restrictions on Bulgarians and Romanians. The  European Parliament  in March urged the  European Commission , the EU's executive arm, to force US citizens to get visas to enter the union in retaliation. But European Union migration commissioner  Dimitris Avramopoulos  said they made headway in talks with  Washington  and  Ottawa . "The EU will always choose engagement, commitment and patient diplomacy over any form of unilateral retaliation,"  he told a news conference. POPE FRANCIS : HOLY FATHER CALLS FOR NORTH KOREA NEGOTIATIONS

                           Pope Francis on Saturday called for negotiations to resolve tensions surrounding North Korea's nuclear ambitions. Speaking on board the papal plane on his way back from a two-day visit to Egypt, the pontiff said there was a need for "negotiations with a view to a diplomatic solution". "There are plenty of mediators in the world who are putting themselves forward. Norway, for example which is ready to help," he said. Reprising his theme of "world war in parts", Pope Francis said that these were "concentrated at points that were already hot. In Korea, today, it seems that things are becoming too heated."

100 level Unilag student commits suicide after hostel roommates disgraced her publicly for stealing

Parents of a Christian 16-year-old girl are crying out for help following the decision of a Sharia court sitting in Erena to forcefully marry their daughter Janet Habila, to her Muslim tailor boss, Nasiru.
