Cabinet Shake-up: Imo State governor sacks all his commissioners, including top officials

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has dismissed his entire cabinet members in what appears to be a strategic bid to restrengthen his administration. The governor on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, sacked his state executive council and 27 local government transition committees with immediate effect.   In a statement by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Pascal Obi,  the Governor ordered the affected commissioners and transition committees to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries.

FG Commends FCMB, as Bank Donates School Feeding Portal to Government

The Acting President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has commended First City Monument Bank (FCMB) for showing a strong commitment and support to the development of Nigeria through strategic partnerships with the public and private sectors over the years. The commitment, he emphasised, has gone a long way to strengthen government’s efforts towards enhancing the well-being of the country and the citizenry. The Acting President gave the commendation during a visit by the Management of the Bank on May 30, 2017 to the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The visit provided an opportunity for the Bank's management to formally donate to the Federal Government a robust Home grown School Feeding (HGSF) programme web portal developed by the Bank for deployment nationwide.

Horrific video of a physiotherapist manhandling a special needs child in Nigeria

The horrific video which was shared on Youtube shows a physiotherapist manhandling a little girl with cerebral palsy. The video was captured on CCTV and shared by a Nigeria based NGO, Diary of a Special needs Mom Initiative. The video which is about 19 minutes long shows the caregiver slapping, hitting and twisting the hand of the child several times. At a point, she even used her cellphone to slap the child, tied her hands at her back and consistently pushed the little girl. The little girl fell down from her seat more than five times in the video and every time the physiotherapist picked her up, she hit the girl. She was more concerned with pressing her phone than giving the little girl any attention. Watch the video below...

Fashola advocates for decrease in House rent nationwide

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, yesterday advocated for a decrease in the house rent collected by landlords nationwide. Speaking at the inauguration of the board members of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria in Abuja, Fashola said going by the economic slow down being experienced globally, most house owners have adjusted their rent by giving their tenants some discount but in Nigeria, that has not been the case. Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, today disclosed that primary and secondary schools in the country will soon start teaching Mathematics and Science subjects in indigenous languages. Onu made this known at the inauguration of an inter-ministerial committee in teaching of Mathematics and Science subjects in Local languages in Abuja. Whistleblower Charged for giving false information on Deputy Senate President

A 50-year-old man, Ahmed Echodo, has been charged to court on Tuesday for allegedly hoaxing the police to carry out a raid at a building which belongs to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu. According to the one-count charge, two defendants were accused of the offense, but only Mr. Echodo was arraigned at a magistrate court in Abuja because the other defendant, Mr Adamu was at large.

3-week-old baby dies in dog attack after being left alone with 3 pit bulls.

A 3-week-old baby left with her family’s dogs, was brutally bitten to death by the 3  pit bulls  after the dogs bit her on the head and she was left unattended to. The baby identified as Susannah Jean Murray was left alone in a bouncy for five minutes inside her Michigan home with three pit bulls serving as her only companions.

IN LIBYA : UN LAUNCHES $75 MILLION APPEAL FOR REFUGEES

The United Nations on Tuesday launched a $75.5-million (67.5-million-euro) appeal to tackle a swelling humanitarian and migration crisis in Libya. The  UN's High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)  said the funds would go toward providing essential services for displaced people, refugees and asylum-seekers. The appeal is in partnership with the  UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM). "We have urgent work to do in Libya and can only do it together,"  said UNHCR head  Filippo Grandi  in a statement.  "We are going the extra mile in trying to make a difference for hundreds of thousands of people."

UBER, CABIFY : SPANISH TAXIS GO ON STRIKE AGAINST COMPANIES

Thousands of Spanish taxis went on strike in Madrid and Barcelona on Tuesday to protest against ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Cabify. In the seaside city of  Barcelona , a draw for tourists, taxi drivers stopped work for a full 24 hours while those in the Spanish capital went on strike for 12 hours and protested in the streets. At Madrid's main  Atocha  train station, they let off firecrackers and shouted  "taxis united, never defeated"  while hapless travellers stood by. Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and Hunter Strickland of the San Francisco Giants got into an ugly brawl on Monday after Strickland hit Harper in the hip with a pitch in the eighth inning. A SYRIAN TEENAGER HAS BEEN CHARGED IN GERMANY ON SUSPICION PLOTTING A BERLIN SUICIDE ATTACK

A 17-year-old Syrian has been arrested in Germany on suspicion of plotting a suicide attack in Berlin, the BBC reports. The suspect was arrested in Uckermark, which is approximately 100km north of Berlin and in the state of Brandenburg. Karl-Heinz Shröter, the state's interior minister, announced the arrest on Tuesday. Shröter  said that the suspect had clearly written about a planned attack in an electronic message to his mother,  according to local news agency DW .

The German grocery chain Lidl is opening its first stores in the US after years of preparation. On June 15, the company will open its first nine stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Lidl released a list of the first stores on Tuesday. The chain will add another 80 stores along the East Coast by the middle of next year. Lidl (pronounced lee-dil) plans to eventually open as many as 600 stores in the US, according to a copy of a company presentation obtained by Business Insider. Lidl currently has 10,000 stores in 27 European countries.

Yari made the call at the 2017 Democracy Day celebration in Gusau on Monday and said that Muslims should also use the period to pray for leaders. With more than 80 million collective social media followers, platinum selling artists Eminem and Justin Timberlake helped raise just under $2.3 million in the last few days. A crowd funding effort started by the Manchester Evening News set a 24-day deadline to raise $2 million for the British Red Cross, both artists read about it and shared the link on their social media pages, encouraging fans to join them in donating to the victims of the attack. Their fans responded by donating to the crowdfunding page.

Mother charged with manslaughter after accidentally smothering her 2 months old son as they slept together

A 23 year old mother, Arissa Ward has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after she allegedly smothered her child while they slept next to each other. Ward, called police in Middleton, Pennsylvania, on 30 December last year after she found her infant son unresponsive on the couch next to her where they had been sleeping.  She said she had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana before lying on the couch next to her son, who was two months and five days old. An autopsy carried out a week later found the child had died due to “traumatic asphyxia combined with smothering”.
