Ahead of his move to Arsenal, Henry Onyekuru has received the backing of Gunners’ icon Ian Wright to silence doubters.
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have agreed on a £6.8m fee to sign the 19-year-old who scored 25 goals last season for Belgian side KAS Eupen.
The report was however greeted by disappointing remarks by a slew of Arsenal fans who are expected big signings from Arsene Wenger.
Wright has leapt to the defence of Onyekuru, calling on the forward to ‘shut his doubters up’ just like he did when he joined Arsenal in 1991.
Wright joined Arsenal without any fanfare but went ahead to win a Premier League title, two FA Cup trophies, a League Cub and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
He is currently the Arsenal’s second highest goalscorer with 185 goals.
“Remember watching the news when I signed for Arsenal, fans said ‘why we signing him’ Good luck to you Henry. I found the way to shut them up,” Wright wrote on Twitter along with a photo of Onyekuru.
Onyekuru is currently in camp with the Super Eagles of Nigeria and is expected to complete his move to Arsenal very soon.
