IN AUSTRALIA : GOVERNMENT READY TO MEDIATE IN CRICKET PAY ROW

Sports Minister Greg Hunt said on Sunday the federal government was prepared to provide mediation between Cricket Australia and players over the pay-dispute stalemate. CA chairman David Peever has turned down the Australian Cricketers' Association's request for independent mediation and there are fears the stand-off could potentially lead to a players' boycott of the showpiece Ashes series later in the year. Hunt said the government was hesitant about being too interventionist in contract disputes in professional sport.

Pioneering female coach Chan Yuen-ting has stepped down a year after making history as the first woman to lead a team to a men's top flight league title. The trailblazing Chan, nicknamed "Beef Ball" for her toughness, coached Eastern Sports Club to win Hong Kong's Premier League last April for the first time in 21 years and led them into this season's Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League.

Triple jump king Christian Taylor believes a new sleep regimen could hold the key to his dream of breaking Jonathan Edwards' 22-year-old world record. Taylor, the reigning two-time Olympic and world champion, threatened Edwards' 1995 mark on Saturday with the third longest leap in history, posting 18.11m at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene. The American star, who already owns the second longest jump (18.21) of all-time, said he has made breaking Edwards' record of 18.29m the priority for the remainder of his career. "I'm getting older and my time is running out,"  Taylor said.  "It's a small window. I have to capitalise on it while I'm healthy. I can't play around any more."

Serena Williams may be missing from this year's French Open, but big sister Venus is still going strong and marks her Roland Garros 20th anniversary on Sunday. Three weeks shy of her 37th birthday, the American star, who made her debut in the French capital in 1997, kicks off her latest campaign against China's Wang Qiang. Williams, seeded 10, has played every year since 1997 with the exception of 2011 and despite her senior citizen status, she is still a contender at the Slams as her run to the Australian Open final in January proved. Her staggering longevity is illustrated by the fact that her potential second round opponent is compatriot Amanda Anisimova who, at just 15, is the youngest main draw competitor since 2005.

20-year-old girl sets boyfriend’s house ablaze for cheating on her

                             A 20-year-old Ghanaian Girl, Priscilla Berfi has rendered her boyfriend homeless after she set his house on fire for allegedly cheating on her. The house, located at Debuako in the Oforikrom Constituenc of the Ashanti Region was seriously on fire, but no casualties was recorded. The fire destroyed several properties though. According to Pulse Ghana, the boyfriend, Kofi Adusei said he had ceased taking care of Priscilla, who is pregnant due to her bad attitude and lack of respect towards him.
